Objectives:

  • Explain the rationale behind the development of the OSI model.
  • Describe the differences between connection-oriented and connectionless communications
  • Explain the functions of each layer and sub-layer in the OSI model
  • Describe how the OSI model passes between network modes
  • Describe the five steps of encapsulation and de-encapsulation

Topics:

  • Developing the OSI Reference Model
  • The Physical Layer and the Data Link Layer
  • The Network Layer and the Transport Layer
  • The Session, Presentation, and Application Layers
  • The OSI Model in Operation
  • The Data Encapsulation Process
  • Reversing the Data Encapsulation Process
